Privacy Policy

EmployMi (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is a job search tool operated by a sole proprietorship based in Fairfax, Virginia. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — When you create an account, we collect your email address and name through Clerk, our authentication provider. You may optionally sign in with Google, in which case Clerk receives your Google profile information.
  • Resume and profile data — The resume text you upload and the job preferences you set (titles, location, work arrangement) are stored locally in your browser (localStorage). This data does not leave your device except when you initiate a job search or document generation.
  • Application tracker data — Jobs you save or track (title, company, URL, status, notes, and whether a resume or cover letter was generated for that job) are stored in our database and linked to your account so they persist across devices and sessions.
  • Seen-jobs history — To avoid showing you the same job listings repeatedly, we store a list of job identifiers (derived from job URL, title, and company) in your browser's localStorage under a key tied to your account. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time using the “Clear history” button on the dashboard.
  • Job search and scoring data — When you run a job search or score a job, we transmit your resume text and profile preferences to Anthropic's Claude API to generate scores and application documents. We do not store this data on our servers after the request completes.
  • Usage data — We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated data about page visits and feature usage. No personally identifiable information is included in analytics data.
  • Payment information — If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details. Stripe's privacy policy governs how payment data is handled.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the EmployMi service
  • To authenticate your account and maintain your session
  • To process your resume and generate job scores and application documents
  • To manage your subscription and process payments
  • To improve the service through anonymous usage analytics
  • To communicate with you about your account or the service when necessary

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate EmployMi:

  • Clerk (clerk.com) — User authentication and account management. Clerk stores your email address and account identifiers. See Clerk's Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic (anthropic.com) — AI processing for job scoring and document generation. Resume text is sent to Anthropic's API during generation. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
  • Stripe (stripe.com) — Payment processing. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel (vercel.com) — Hosting and anonymous analytics. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • Neon (neon.tech) — Serverless Postgres database used to store your application tracker data and anonymous usage analytics. See Neon's Privacy Policy.
  • JSearch / RapidAPI — Job search API used to retrieve live job listings from LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, and other sources. Your search parameters (job titles, location) are sent to this service. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.
  • Google Maps Geocoding API — Used to calculate distance between your location and job locations. Only your city or zip code is transmitted.

4. Data Storage and Retention

Your resume text, job preferences, and search results are stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. Your seen-jobs history (the list of jobs you've already been shown) is also stored locally in localStorage — you can clear it from the dashboard at any time. Clearing your browser data will remove all locally stored data. Application tracker data (saved jobs, statuses, notes, document generation flags) is stored server-side in our database and linked to your account — it is not affected by clearing your browser.

Account information (email, subscription status) is stored by Clerk and retained for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion at any time.

5. AI-Generated Content

EmployMi uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate job scores, resume suggestions, and cover letters. All AI-generated content is based solely on the resume text and job description you provide. We instruct the AI not to fabricate information. You should review all AI-generated documents before submitting them to employers.

By using EmployMi, you acknowledge that resume text is transmitted to Anthropic's API for processing. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your resume beyond what is necessary for job applications.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability — Request a machine-readable copy of your data
  • Opt-out — Opt out of analytics tracking (Vercel Analytics respects Do Not Track signals)

7. Cookies

EmployMi uses cookies and similar technologies only for authentication (Clerk session cookies) and essential site functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

8. Children's Privacy

EmployMi is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of EmployMi after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
